A friend of mine recently moved to the Philippines to live out the remainder of his life. He sent me this connection. He, too, is helping the T'boli tribe. The Kipalkuda Elementary School they attend needs help establishing a lunch program. Maybe there is something my readers can do to help.
"Tribal children attending this school walk up to 4 hours each way through the rain forest, crossing up to 7 streams or rivers. They leave home as early as 3:00 AM without breakfast, and don’t carry a lunch. Most families are too poor for more than one meal a day. They arrive at school wet, tired, and hungry, but eager to learn. At least until the Noon hour when, formerly, they would begin the long trek back to their forest homes."
