Puke soaked sheets at 3:00 a.m.

After stumbling upon this blog post, 'Couples therapy for homeschoolers', my first thought was it is probably the most messed up thing I've ever read about homeschooling. Initially, I thought what does this have to do with homeschooling?

However, after reading elsewhere on the blog how and why the author cut public schooling out of her life, it appears she is taking a huge step in the right direction to remedy her own education and past. Deciding to homeschool her children was probably THE best thing she ever did to heal from a traumatic childhood and to empower herself. This mom is making the journey and transitioning to a stronger advocate for her own children. Much of what she writes about may make you uncomfortable but she is quite open and honest about sharing her experiences (even the ugly personal ones) and her discoveries.

Penelope Trunk seems to have landed in the same trap many women, since the 1960's, have tumbled into. Many of us were indoctrinated into thinking we needed to be overachievers or career oriented in this world to be successful and happy. Some women overcompensate to hide a past or to prove their worth. Some of us put off childbearing until we feel we can incorporate both a career and children into our lives. Unlike your fancy car or stunning wardrobe though, children are not a status symbol.

Once motherhood becomes a reality, we find ourselves needing to make some tough choices concerning our livelihoods. Being a mom is a full time job in and of itself. The harsh reality, in spite of years of being told 'we can have it all', is that having children means puke soaked sheets at 3:00 a.m. when you've got a team meeting at the office the next morning at 8:00! Unless you're willing to pass off that responsibility to a daycare worker, public school teacher or high school counselor, your life's mission, as a parent, is to provide for every aspect of your child's life. That includes the physical, spiritual, educational and moral well-being of that child you were blessed with.

Having a career or job isn't the same as having an income. One of the greatest challenges will be finding a way to feed, clothe and house your family as a homeschooling or stay-at-home mom. If you've established a career working outside the home and away from your family, you may need to rethink your situation if it interferes with your responsibility of raising healthy, happy and well educated children.

I'm looking forward to reading more of Penelope's blog in the future. We old timers can relate to her struggles and appreciate her growth as a homeschooling parent. Sometimes it takes motherhood to bring life into focus for a clearer vision of what nature intended us to be, not what present day culture tries to mold us into. Sometimes success and happiness can be measured by how quickly we can provide fresh clean sheets and much needed hugs to a sick child at 3 o'clock in the morning.

PA Homeschool Dad Pays Property Taxes in Dollar Bills

This homeschooling dad is terrific. Watch him pay $7,143.00 of his $10,000.00 property taxes in dollar bills and some change. He homeschools his three children and doesn't utilize the public school. His argument is we are being coerced into paying for something we don't need or want (very true) and we shouldn't live in fear of losing our homes if we don't cough up the dough that pays the union thugs (my words) who run the public schools.

We all know school boards are as useless as tits on a bull because their main function is to extort as much cash as they can from taxpayers, in order to appease the union thugs who control this monopoly. The video is approximately 14 minutes long but well worth watching.

Kudos homeschool dad for standing up for your rights and for giving us this visual to pass along to other patriots.

Another mom sees the light

'Homeschooling Misconceptions' by Paula Drennan, a lovely article from a mom who has discovered what homeschooling is really about. She took charge of her child's education two years ago and talks about how her own preconceived notions about homeschooling have changed.

Thanks for sharing, Paula, and kudos to you!

Unschooler hacks his way through education

Meet Dale Stephens, the unschooler who is hacking his way through education and loving it. He began unschooling at the end of fifth grade, has traveled the world and written a book (Hacking Your Education: Ditch the Lectures, Save Tens of Thousands, and Learn More Than Your Peers Ever Will), and he's only 21.

"My mom and dad have always been my biggest supporters. I think they both had parents who said no to them a lot. It surprises me how many parents just don't believe in their children."

Kudos to Dale. This is a great example of what can happen when schooling gets out of the way of education!

Quote: Jack Hatfield

"Homeschooling statistics, whether you agree or not, are but a shadow of true homeschooling. Once the facts get removed from the dark and the apparent hegemony against homeschoolers stop, parents that truly care will understand, this is a lasting freedom that breaks the cycle of sameness."     Jack Hatfield

Got that? "...a lasting freedom that breaks the cycle of sameness." That is profound.

Jack Hatfield is the founder of Homeschooler Hub, a social network for homeschoolers and author of Blessed with Tragedy: A Father's Journey with His PreeMiracle.

Kudos to a man who is changing lives for the better. Thank you, Jack.

'Tis the season to remember the reason

This is the Christmas 'Flash Mob' by Journey of Faith at a shopping mall in California, packed with holiday shoppers on December 18, 2010. It just recently crossed my path.

In the face of adversity, doubt and defeat, we always somehow manage to get turned back around to the peace, faith and strength that is meant to grace our loving hearts.

Just had to share with you all. Gave me goosebumps and made me cry. Overwhelmingly joyous and wonderful how the unsuspecting shoppers spontaneously join in. Kudos to the artist who created, planned and choreographed this. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you for this inspirational moment in time and thank you for sharing!

Homeschool family lives in 320 sq. ft. home

This is amazing. Makes me want to downsize in a hurry.

Wow, frugal living at its best. There's even room for the pet cat! I know what Debra means by having a large home and filling it up to the point where you don't know what you have in it anymore. Yeah, it's definitely time to downsize here at my house.

Is college putting you and your child in the poor house?

Gerald Celente is great (as always) in this documentary. Kudos to National Inflation Association for a job well done!

It's amazing to think I lived the college experience but fortunately for me I didn't go into debt nor did my parents for doing it. Granted I managed to go to college on the GI Bill but millions of young people go into hock these days to buy a college degree. A degree that doesn't guarantee employment or even an education of any value. Out of the five official years I spent on campus purchasing a degree my best college lessons were from only two professors. Of those two professors one was a commercial artist and the other was a theater director. Both pushed me to excel in whatever I chose to pursue simply because they saw I had the self-discipline, initiative and maturity to do so.

By the time I landed on campus I had already been in the US Army, traveled the country, had worked full time for several years and was much older than my classmates who were fresh out of high school. My upbringing may have played a role too since I grew up in the 1950's and 1960's with 10 siblings on a farm where we needed to be self-sufficient and industrious in order to survive.  Our grade school consisted of two rooms with grades 1-6, about 50 students total. Back then the only two teachers in that school made sure we learned reading, writing and arithmetic. We learned to socialize with other children on the 2 mile walk to and from school and on the playground during recess. When I got to high school much of what was 'taught' didn't make sense in the real world and seemed like useless information even back then.

When we decided to homeschool we made the conscious decision to pick and choose any formal courses our children might attend. ANY public school attendance was completely taken out of the equation. We were not about to give the public school system the slightest opportunity to take credit for even a fraction of our child's education. We proved public school was unnecessary and a waste of tax payer money. Community college was used but only as an alternative to high school and we paid out of pocket per class. College courses were highly focused and our children are not indebted to any bank, loan company or the taxpayers.

Guerrilla Homeschooling honored with Stylish Blogger Award

A gigantic yet humble thank you to Linda Dobson from Parent At The Helm for honoring Guerrilla Homeschooling with the Stylish Blogger Award. We're flattered to have such a well known and respected homeschool advocate think highly enough of our blog to recognize us with this honor.

This award requires some participation. As a recipient each person is expected to share with others 7 things about themselves and pay this award forward to 15 other blogs of their choice. In case you're just the least bit curious about me...

1. I gave up an acting career to have my two beautiful children and become a full time mom.
2. I'm longing for a Morkie puppy.
3. Biking and swimming are things I love to do but I don't like swimming in oceans or lakes because of the critters I can and can't see swimming along with me.
4. I joined the US Army in 1972 and graduated from basic training at the top of my class.
5. Ducks and horses are my favorite animals.
6. The first and only photography contest I ever entered I won. My entry was a black and white untitled photo of a ragamuffin child with an old man.
7. I'm a closet (dark) chocoholic and I don't like to cook.

Now, to pay this award forward. The following 15 blogs are definitely worthy of the Stylish Blogger Award. Most are homeschool related but a few are just some of my favorites with valuable information and I enjoy reading them. They are:

1. Parent At The Helm (yes, I'm paying it forward and back to Linda's terrific blog)
2. Home Education Magazine
3. SurvivalBlog
4. Spunky Homeschool
5. Swiss Army Wife
6. The Unschool Bus
7. The Survival Mom
8. Learning Through Living
9. Fish In My Hair
10. Rickshaw Unschooling
11. Almost Unschoolers
12. Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers
13. Skipping School
14. Paratus Familia
15. Homeschool Buzz

Congratulations to these 15 blogs and their bloggers. You have my kudos for giving us enjoyable and informative blogs I am proud to share with others.

This is why homeschoolers are a threat to the ruling class

"School is an 18 year forced government training program that sterilizes the potential for brilliance in children."

Kudos for a great video telling the truth about what public schooling is really for. We homeschoolers, especially unschoolers, don't participate in the stranglehold the ruling class has on the children of this country. We are a threat to them because we are educating our children, not indoctrinating them.

KPCC-FM's AirTalk devotes forum to homeschooling

What's the homeschool difference? from 89.3 KPCC on Vimeo.

"The kids were a delight – thoughtful, articulate, and clearly exposed to a diverse world.  However, we also heard some good points from our guest who was more skeptical about homeschooling."

The KPCC-FM websites says:

89.3 KPCC-FM is one of the nation's fastest growing public radio stations, producing and distributing noncommercial news, talk, education, and entertainment programming.

Operated by Southern California Public Radio, KPCC features the most NPR programming in the region, as well as a local news service that has received more than 197 awards for journalistic excellence.

Well done! Kudos to KPCC-FM!

Portland man withdraws son from district following abuse allegations | Corpus Christi, TX | KZTV10.com |

Portland man withdraws son from district following abuse allegations | Corpus Christi, TX | KZTV10.com |

"Matt Breaux, Zack's father, has withdrawn the boy from East Cliff Elementary and he's now homeschooling the boy. The father met with school administrators last week, but was not happy with the outcome."

Seems more and more parents are being forced to consider the homeschooling option. Sure does make my job easier. I don't need to work so hard at convincing parents they're better off OUT of the public schools. Hurray! Another family escapes from the armpit of the world known as public schooling.

Is America going back to the horse and buggy days?

Michael Ruppert presents an interesting scenario concerning America's future. He talks about subjects you won't read about in the mainstream media or hear about in public school. This could explain why we homeschoolers are such a threat to the status quo. We are FREE to teach our children what we want, when we want, how we want, and we can teach them the truth. Homeschoolers, are you paying attention here? Ruppert is hopeful at the end of these videos though.

Caution: some of this information may cause extreme anxiety and concern for the weak and unprepared.

The ultimate in unschooling...on the unschool bus

This is so cool! Reminds me of our unschooling journey. We just didn't have a set of wheels under us and we like to eat meat.

Meet the family...

The unschool bus proves you don't need a house full of useless material things to thrive and survive. The world (or at least the country) is their school room. This is a family I would love to meet.

Homeschool Freedom Act Introduced in New Hampshire

Homeschool Freedom Act Introduced in New Hampshire

"The proposed law involves homeschoolers sending a simple one-time notification when a homeschool program begins. The bill also removes several provisions which granted state agencies unnecessary oversight and created unwarranted bureaucracy for school districts and parents. Numerous states have changed their laws in recent years along the same lines as H.B. 301, including Arizona and Nevada, because national homeschooling research has shown that needless bureaucracy just wastes parents’ time and taxpayers’ money."

Let's hope the rest of this country will begin to follow this lead. In some states it's amazingly simple to homeschool. In other states it's a bureaucratic nightmare. Homeschooling is catching on like wild fire and folks are realizing its massive savings to taxpayers, let alone the fact that the education homeschoolers receive far exceeds that of public schooling.

We're in tough economic times. Homeschooling may be the saving grace this country needs right now for more reasons than just saving the taxpayers money.

The new law may or may not help this persecuted homeschooling New Hampshire mom.
