Guerrilla Homeschooling honored with Stylish Blogger Award

A gigantic yet humble thank you to Linda Dobson from Parent At The Helm for honoring Guerrilla Homeschooling with the Stylish Blogger Award. We're flattered to have such a well known and respected homeschool advocate think highly enough of our blog to recognize us with this honor.

This award requires some participation. As a recipient each person is expected to share with others 7 things about themselves and pay this award forward to 15 other blogs of their choice. In case you're just the least bit curious about me...

1. I gave up an acting career to have my two beautiful children and become a full time mom.
2. I'm longing for a Morkie puppy.
3. Biking and swimming are things I love to do but I don't like swimming in oceans or lakes because of the critters I can and can't see swimming along with me.
4. I joined the US Army in 1972 and graduated from basic training at the top of my class.
5. Ducks and horses are my favorite animals.
6. The first and only photography contest I ever entered I won. My entry was a black and white untitled photo of a ragamuffin child with an old man.
7. I'm a closet (dark) chocoholic and I don't like to cook.

Now, to pay this award forward. The following 15 blogs are definitely worthy of the Stylish Blogger Award. Most are homeschool related but a few are just some of my favorites with valuable information and I enjoy reading them. They are:

1. Parent At The Helm (yes, I'm paying it forward and back to Linda's terrific blog)
2. Home Education Magazine
3. SurvivalBlog
4. Spunky Homeschool
5. Swiss Army Wife
6. The Unschool Bus
7. The Survival Mom
8. Learning Through Living
9. Fish In My Hair
10. Rickshaw Unschooling
11. Almost Unschoolers
12. Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers
13. Skipping School
14. Paratus Familia
15. Homeschool Buzz

Congratulations to these 15 blogs and their bloggers. You have my kudos for giving us enjoyable and informative blogs I am proud to share with others.

Michigan orders DPS to make huge cuts | detnews.com | The Detroit News

"State education officials have ordered Robert Bobb to immediately implement a financial restructuring plan that balances the district's books by closing half of its schools, swelling high school class sizes to 60 students and consolidating operations."

Might be a great time to consider homeschooling as an option.

15 year old publicly humiliated by mom for bad grades in school

"Holder said she has tried other approaches, like taking his cell phone away from him, but nothing has worked."

Has she tried homeschooling him in a loving, nurturing environment?

Just exactly what lesson is this mom teaching her son? This is wrong on so many levels. Leaves me wondering what her attitude and grades were like in school. Why didn't she just put him in stocks in the town square? Oh, wait, that could be considered child abuse. And this isn't? Children learn what they live.

Illinois homeschool law gets put on hold...for now!

"Mercadante said roughly 4,000 people flooded the Illinois capital building in Springfield on Tuesday for an initial hearing for the bill. Among other proposals, Mercadante said the possibility of mandatory home visits by state officials to home schooling families was considered."

The tide is turning and it's about time!

"Students with at least four unexcused absences will be given a handheld device with a GPS signal to verify their location, which officials hope will cut down on truancies."

Wonder how many of these chronically truant students will be selling their 'hand held' devices for drug money? Oh, wait, if they lose it will parents be charged to replace it? What next? Chipping the kids?

Do these students on the side walks with signs even know what they're protesting? I doubt it. Appears their teachers are just whipping them up into a frenzy to create chaos and do their dirty work for them.

Clueless Wisconsin public school students don't know why they're protesting

Why am I not surprised. Appears to me homeschooling in Wisconsin is about to swell in numbers. I'm sure the homeschooler's day didn't skip a beat and their teachers didn't walk out on them.

This is why homeschoolers are a threat to the ruling class

"School is an 18 year forced government training program that sterilizes the potential for brilliance in children."

Kudos for a great video telling the truth about what public schooling is really for. We homeschoolers, especially unschoolers, don't participate in the stranglehold the ruling class has on the children of this country. We are a threat to them because we are educating our children, not indoctrinating them.

KPCC-FM's AirTalk devotes forum to homeschooling

What's the homeschool difference? from 89.3 KPCC on Vimeo.

"The kids were a delight – thoughtful, articulate, and clearly exposed to a diverse world.  However, we also heard some good points from our guest who was more skeptical about homeschooling."

The KPCC-FM websites says:

89.3 KPCC-FM is one of the nation's fastest growing public radio stations, producing and distributing noncommercial news, talk, education, and entertainment programming.

Operated by Southern California Public Radio, KPCC features the most NPR programming in the region, as well as a local news service that has received more than 197 awards for journalistic excellence.

Well done! Kudos to KPCC-FM!

"Matt Breaux, Zack's father, has withdrawn the boy from East Cliff Elementary and he's now homeschooling the boy. The father met with school administrators last week, but was not happy with the outcome."

Seems more and more parents are being forced to consider the homeschooling option. Sure does make my job easier. I don't need to work so hard at convincing parents they're better off OUT of the public schools. Hurray! Another family escapes from the armpit of the world known as public schooling.

Bucks Schoolteacher Suspended Over Blog About Students « CBS Philly

Bucks Schoolteacher Suspended Over Blog About Students « CBS Philly

"In a post from January of last year, Munroe talks about some of the comments she would like to write about her students on their report cards in place of what she calls the “canned comments” which are provided by the school district. The comments include “lazy,” “sneaky” and “rude.”

I'm leaning in favor of the teacher this time. Something isn't right about this story. Sounds like her students are upset for being outed and the parents need to develop a thicker skin. Read the article then watch the video. This isn't adding up for some reason. Was she specifically targeting students or musing about what it would be like to be allowed to teach unrestrained from political correctness and administrative tyranny?

She sounds like a frank and honest English teacher to me. I, for one, would love to read her blog.

Hmmm. Let's see. High school English. I can only imagine her frustration at trying to teach high school English in a state where the average reading score for 11th graders is 67% and teenagers are better at writing a text message than a coherent essay. Geeeeeeeeeesh!

Here is a recent follow up to Ms. Munroe's predicament.

People are speaking out in defense of Ms. Munroe.

Local Mother Jailed For Son’s School Attendance Problems « CBS Pittsburgh

Local Mother Jailed For Son’s School Attendance Problems « CBS Pittsburgh

"Jessica Heiser’s son is a student at Rumbaugh Elementary School. The school district filed a complaint with the magistrate after her son missed nine unexcused days in a single school year."

Sounds like the school district is just looking to make a fast buck off parents too dumb to figure out they're being snookered. What makes this mom think she doesn't need to live according to the school's whims when she signed on the dotted line at enrollment time? Yes, her signature means she is giving the school district permission to do whatever they feel like doing to her and her children.

Public schools are absolutely desperate for money these days. They're going to soak anyone they can to get it!

Police state? Had enough yet America?

Is America going back to the horse and buggy days?

Michael Ruppert presents an interesting scenario concerning America's future. He talks about subjects you won't read about in the mainstream media or hear about in public school. This could explain why we homeschoolers are such a threat to the status quo. We are FREE to teach our children what we want, when we want, how we want, and we can teach them the truth. Homeschoolers, are you paying attention here? Ruppert is hopeful at the end of these videos though.

Caution: some of this information may cause extreme anxiety and concern for the weak and unprepared.

The ultimate in unschooling...on the unschool bus

This is so cool! Reminds me of our unschooling journey. We just didn't have a set of wheels under us and we like to eat meat.

Meet the family...

The unschool bus proves you don't need a house full of useless material things to thrive and survive. The world (or at least the country) is their school room. This is a family I would love to meet.

American public schools have finally gone insane

A Michigan school is allowing ceremonial daggers in school now. This is insanity! What happened to public school's zero tolerance for taking weapons to school? What hypocrisy!

Then you have this insanity...
