I homeschool my child with a superior education, more material learned, for less money,(we use lots of free resources online like LearningGamesForKids.com), fewer governmental resorces, (doesn't cost me $11,000 a year to educate my child) and I encourage her to think for herself (maybe that is the biggest threat of all?) Maybe being less dependent (and less beholding) to the government makes them nervous.
I try not to be radical, after all, I just want what I think is best for my child. At any rate, I bid you happy homeschoolingLindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08784646366110943578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986022576929609934.post-72518290342057461582012-11-24T01:49:12.000-08:002012-11-24T01:49:12.000-08:00Awesome quote Collection of Napolean Hill . People could become VERY well educated back in the 1800s, and that was in the days of wood-burning stoves and slates. It's learning. It'll happen. And really, what better place to learn about self-sufficiency, helping people out, the effects of natural disasters, and how local government works in a crisis than in the middle of hurricane aftermath?Kjerstin @ Homeschool101.nethttp://www.homeschool101.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986022576929609934.post-33345357443583836182012-11-04T15:02:07.798-08:002012-11-04T15:02:07.798-08:00Your FCU Homeschooling blog is wonderful. At first we had the special 'room' with desks, learning stations, black boards, etc. When I look back now I realize that was more a hindrance than help.

The best part of home-based education is the freedom to stop what you're doing if it isn't working and try something else. You also learn alongside your children which makes you a stronger and more knowledgeable advocate for them.

To us 'unschooling' was all about NOT doing things the way the public school did. We made a conscious effort to NOT test, grade, label, or use school terms.

We also decided we were better off to associate with like-minded people. Those that opposed us, doubted us and mocked us were kicked to the curb side or ignored. Eventually, we didn't need to keep proving them wrong because we discovered how natural, beneficial and successful unschooling was for our family.

Good luck and be strong!Cindy Wadehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06386345846729211413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986022576929609934.post-44997631154943892632012-10-02T23:55:58.432-07:002012-10-02T23:55:58.432-07:00That was really great. I've already begun to doubt myself, at times, as to whether I can teach my 5-year-old anything when I have a 3-year-old and 21-month-old wanting my attention simultaneously. I know thing will get easier with time and that we'll probably change things up many times throughout this journey. I love seeing things like this to remember the fundamentals of the choice I've made to keep my kids home. I think I am going to post that on my blog as well (with due credit and a link to Ms. Dobson's site of course), for those that always want to tout the benefits of public school over homeschooling, lol. We definitely have our own sleep schedules that would not be met if in P.S. They play outside, and sometimes school outside, when they can. My oldest son was on antibiotics three times, in a two month period when he was still in public school. Twice for strep (unfortunately, so many parents send their children to school sick) and once for scarlet fever (which is basically strep with a rash). We pulled him out of school in late October of that year. That was 2005. He's been on antibiotics TWICE in all the years since. That is a huge benefit to homeschooling, in and of itself. :)

Again, thanks for re-sharing!

Katie
A computer junkie, workbook hating, TV watching, iGadget addicted, secular homeschooling, soccer mom of 2 boys.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17720459597404449811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3986022576929609934.post-4629720107649458842011-12-01T13:14:34.718-08:002011-12-01T13:14:34.718-08:00Love your post!
