New Hampshire mom persecuted for teaching religion in her homeschool

You may have first heard about Brenda Voydatch here. She's the homeschooling mom in Meredith, New Hampshire who was forced to send her life-long homeschooled daughter into public school because her ex-husband decided she was too religious.

Douglas Kennedy has done a follow up on this case for Fox News. For those of you who remember the Karen Maple case here in Vermont, Douglas covered that story for Fox News as well.

We'll be keeping an eye on this story to see the outcome, especially now that the New Hampshire legislature recently introduced House Bill 301, the Homeschool Freedom Act.

Let's all hope Brenda's daughter can return home and learn in peace!

Homeschool Freedom Act Introduced in New Hampshire

Homeschool Freedom Act Introduced in New Hampshire

"The proposed law involves homeschoolers sending a simple one-time notification when a homeschool program begins. The bill also removes several provisions which granted state agencies unnecessary oversight and created unwarranted bureaucracy for school districts and parents. Numerous states have changed their laws in recent years along the same lines as H.B. 301, including Arizona and Nevada, because national homeschooling research has shown that needless bureaucracy just wastes parents’ time and taxpayers’ money."

Let's hope the rest of this country will begin to follow this lead. In some states it's amazingly simple to homeschool. In other states it's a bureaucratic nightmare. Homeschooling is catching on like wild fire and folks are realizing its massive savings to taxpayers, let alone the fact that the education homeschoolers receive far exceeds that of public schooling.

We're in tough economic times. Homeschooling may be the saving grace this country needs right now for more reasons than just saving the taxpayers money.

The new law may or may not help this persecuted homeschooling New Hampshire mom.

Vermont Takes Action to Resist FDA Take Over With a Resolution All Should Adopt

"When you do a simple search of the bill that this resolution stands against, the top links are to articles talking about what a devious and dangerous act it is, ‘a snake hissing in the grass’. The people spoke out heavily against S.510 so fervently that the passing was done in an underhanded, undemocratic way. Pushed through in a late night proceeding right before Christmas and hidden in a spending bill (http://healthfreedoms.org/2010/12/21/republicans-democrats-collude-to-pass-food-safety-bill/), it was forced to passing by those in office in order that they may gain more power."

Typical fed shenanigans and our 3 legislators, Leaky Leahy, Socialist Sanders and whats-his-name, are some of the ringleaders.

"The technique, which emphasizes life experience over traditional academics, is utilized by households from every political and religious leaning imaginable. Parents possess different reasons for starting their children down the unschooling path, but the only thing they have in common is an interest to raise them as effectively as possible."

Should government interfere with homeschooling parents because of religious and socialization concerns? | Lynn R. Mitchell | Opinion Zone | Washington Examiner

Should government interfere with homeschooling parents because of religious and socialization concerns? | Lynn R. Mitchell | Opinion Zone | Washington Examiner

"The 11-year-old girl was homeschooled through 4th grade and then ordered into public school because of a lawsuit by the father who objected to the mother educating their daughter at home. The parents divorced when the daughter was two months old."

Again, the states don't give a rat's rump about religion or your religious beliefs. I learned long ago that is not an area you should use to fall back on, unless you can find a judge gullible enough to truly believe religious choice has any merit.

This appears to be purely a case about a man wanting control over his ex-wife. It happens all the time and the courts usually side with the parent wanting the child in public school because that is the territory the judges are most familiar and comfortable with. Once a parent realizes this, such as this dad, they will push the issue, knowing they will better their chances for a victory over the other parent. It has nothing to do with education or what's best for the child. It's a power play.

This dad should be ashamed but he'll get his comeuppance once his daughter comes of age. She won't have anything to do with him for what he's done to her mother. The one thing he's overlooking is where his daughter's loyalty is and that loyalty lays with the woman who gave birth to her. I've seen many of these daughters grow up and make their dad's lives a living hell for doing just what this dad is doing now. That karma thing can be a real bitch!

Ontario party: Human rights commission moving to ‘take over’ education, could threaten homeschooling | LifeSiteNews.com

Ontario party: Human rights commission moving to ‘take over’ education, could threaten homeschooling | LifeSiteNews.com

“If the OHRC is given control over the thoughts of our children, the next target will be private schools and parents who home school,” argued Phil Lees, the leader of the FCP. “The OHRC will quickly move to require private schools and parents who home school to teach their children curriculum that contradicts the values they work to instill in their kids at home.”

Now, how is the OHRC actually going to know what you're teaching your children at home? You could teach the OHRC's curriculum AND your own at the same time, showing your child the difference. Even if your child was required to take a test to prove you were teaching the OHRC's agenda it doesn't mean your child will be indoctrinated into thinking their way.

Here in Vermont, if a parent enrolls in the state's home study program they send in a course of study. In many cases they write up what the state wants to hear but never follow that program once it's submitted. Same goes for the year end assessment. Our public schools do have their own agenda here in the states and it is a constant battle for parents to instill their values in their children while hoping the state doesn't overshadow that. Some win and some lose the battle. Some parents enjoy playing that game with their public school. Personally, I refuse to waist my time and the precious time of my children by doing this. Unlike those parents I put my children ahead of any narcissistic game playing.

Toddlers on ‘hate registers’ for playground squabbles

Toddlers on ‘hate registers’ for playground squabbles

"Last year it was revealed that children as young as five were set to be added to compulsory ‘hate registers’ for using playground insults."

You better believe this is already happening here in America. Go to your school and when you ask to see your child's school records be sure to ask for the electronic version as well as the printed one. Make sure you don't give the school officials any prior notice that you plan to arrive and ask for the records or they will conveniently pull items they don't want you to see. Don't be surprised if they put you off and tell you to come back later, or they can't find your child's records. Be sure to check the nurse's office for the records if the principal doesn't have them because that's where most of the evaluating and drugging of the child goes on. Think I'm kidding? I've advocated for more than several families this has happened to. These are records that will follow your child for the rest of their lives and can destroy their future.

Father: 'My children are being held hostage'

Father: 'My children are being held hostage'

"They're not accountable to anyone," Jackson told WND. "They told us they do not lose cases, and they will substantiate the abuse. This has not been an objective investigation in the first place. They want to adopt the children out, because they get money for adopting children out."

What better children to adopt out than those raised in a loving, nurturing and devout environment. Adoptive parents don't want kids off the street anymore, so now agencies like NJDYFS nab children from decent unsuspecting families. Where is the governor on all this? Unfortunately, his happens in our state all the time too. One southern county here in Vermont is notorious for their shenanigans of taking children for no good reason and putting them into foster care. Our former governor was well aware of what was going on but did nothing to investigate or stop this practice. When he was given photographic proof of the abuse in the foster homes his response was to silence the whistle blowers, not punish the abusers.

This is a sad story and public pressure needs to be placed on the NJDYFS to stop their dangerous nonsense. If you were to investigate the culprits at the NJDYFS (as well as those in our own state) you'll likely find them to be some of the worst offenders of child abuse, neglect and corruption. They hide behind their authority.

"You can pray about other things, you can pray that they'll be happy in their placements," said a DYFS worker identified by Jackson as Denise Hollerbach."

Religion? Hah! People in agencies like the NJDYFS could care less about your religion or your children. They have no regard for constitutional rights either. I learned that years ago while advocating for homeschooling families. Having authority over people is purely a power trip for women like Hollerbach. It's how they get their jollies. It makes their drab lives exciting, like they're living on the edge. In their little pea brains their actions are justified because they are supported by a huge corrupt bureaucracy that backs them. Their existence is not motivated by compassion or doing what is right for families, but by money, greed and power. Any honest, caring and intelligent person wouldn't work for such an organization like the NJDYFS in the first place.

"We were told we're 'excessive Christians' by our therapeutic supervisor," a DYFS contractor, said John Jackson."

Excessive? Now that's a first.

Maybe it's time to stop voting the nut-jobs in who put people like Hollerbach and this therapeutic supervisor in positions of authority. The only thing these nasty people understand is public pressure and bad press, but even then it's no guarantee they will do the right thing by reuniting this family. Sometimes it only makes them meaner and hammer down even harder.

Oakland 2nd Graders Reportedly Engage In Sex Acts, Teacher Suspended « CBS San Francisco

Gee, how did that happen? Hmmmm. Maybe with sex education beginning in kindergarten? Why am I not surprised.

"In one case, several students apparently took off their clothes and were naked in the classroom. In the second incident, a boy and girl reportedly engaged in oral sex in front of their classmates."

How do you NOT notice your 2nd grade students are running around in the classroom NAKED?

"In a letter sent to parents of Markham students on Thursday, Booker offered an apology by telling them that the incidents “represent an unacceptable lack of supervision. I understand there is great anger over this news.”

No apology is going to undo the damage done to these children, all of them including the classmates who watched.

Hey parents, it's time to go home. Get your children out of these hell holes and start taking responsibility for raising them!

Glenn Beck calls on grandparents to help with homeschooling

This makes sense to me and I make no apologies for it. Many of us were the first to homeschool our children. Now our grown children are having babies. Yes, our grandchildren are being born! It would only make sense that we step up to assist our grandchildren with their homeschooling, after all we're the ones with the experience and now the extra time and money. Don't have the extra time and money? Then make some! That's how important it is you give your grandchildren the same educational opportunities and freedom your children had while growing up.

I remember when we first announced we'd be homeschooling and my mother-in-law expressed her concern. After the initial shock of finding out her only grandchildren would never attend public or private school she became our greatest supporter and most loyal advocate. Although she resided hundreds of miles away she faithfully sent care packages containing all sorts of educational materials and supplies to our young children. We kept up our correspondence with letters, phone calls and photographs of each of the children's progress. Today we have email, digital cameras, webcams and even Facebook. As the old telephone ad said, "It's the next best thing to being there!"

It is time for many of us in this country to rethink education and consider an alternative to the dangerous institution we know as public school. Can you think of a better way to spend time with your grandchildren than teaching them the skills you have or by sharing with them the years of knowledge you've accumulated? Not only will you be helping raise articulate, happy and well socialized grandchildren, you'll be giving a much needed financial  and morale boost to their parents.

Home-unschooling the Libertarian way with David Friedman

Friedman uses the term home-unshcooled. This pretty much sums it up.

Many parents who homeschool or unschool tend to intellectualize the experience. Sometimes we just need to relax and enjoy our children and their wide-eyed discovery. That may not be possible while we're in the act of unschooling, but when we become grandparents we can at least try to kick back, relax and enjoy the company of our grandchildren. As experienced unschoolers we know these children are going to learn and grow into beautiful adults without much input form us. We need only supply the love, encouragement and patience required for them to learn in an unimpeded world which is usually controlled by school bureaucrats.

Obama Orders Military To Prepare For Spring Food Riots

Has anyone else seen this? This article was in the EU Times NOT an American newspaper. Are the Europeans trying to tell us something our own President is not?

"According to this report, Sarkozy, as head of the G-20 group of developed Nations, called for and received an emergency meeting with Obama this past Monday at the White House wherein he warned his American counterpart that the shock rise in food prices occurring due to an unprecedented series of disasters was threatening the stability of the entire World and could lead to the outbreak of Total Global War."

MADtv's version of homeschooling...still the funniest video I've ever seen

I love this exaggerated version of homeschooling. It's one of the funniest videos I've ever seen. To have the entertainment industry poking fun at homeschooling is quite an accomplishment. Yep! I guess we're homeschoolers.

Vt. student takes his own life inside school - WCAX.COM Local Vermont News, Weather and Sports-

"The shooting happened just a day after faculty and staff at the school had completed a suicide prevention course."

Makes you wonder what exactly is discussed and what exactly the students are subjected to in this so-called prevention course.

"As for Menning's friends and fellow students, they were kept in the classroom following the tragedy and scheduled exams at the school continued as normal."

What?! Continued as normal? These people can't be serious. Your friend and classmate just kills himself in the school bathroom and the staff expects you to take your exams and continue as normal? Is it any wonder these children feel like no one cares and there is no other way out of the insanity known as public schooling. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!

My heart goes out to this beautiful child (yes, 15 is still a child) and the countless others who had to endure but could no longer take the years of bullshit that goes on in our public schools. Their world is built up around the daily indoctrination and institutionalization they receive starting at the tender ages of 3 to 5 years old, depending on whether they start preschool or kindergarten. Even now our latest governor wants to make preschool mandatory in this state for these unsuspecting children. When will they ever learn? Oh wait, they already know the damage they cause to these young lives but it's all about their union members getting a big fat PAYCHECK!

Rest in peace my dearest little man. They can no longer harm you because you reside with the angels now.

MCS Board working to deal with pregnancies at Frayser High - WMC-TV 5 - Memphis, TN

MCS Board working to deal with pregnancies at Frayser High - WMC-TV 5 - Memphis, TN

"Roughly 20 percent of the female student population at Frayser High is already experiencing the trials of parenthood."

Twenty percent? The article claims 90 girls at this school are now either pregnant or have already had a baby!

"Noting that our young ladies absolutely did not get pregnant in the hallways of our schools," said Gatewood. "So while everything that happens in our communities, it just spills over into our schools. Now we as a community have to deal with them."

Notice Gatewood immediately tries to cover her butt. Spill over into the school? Who is she kidding.

From World Net Daily:

"The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled yesterday against parents who sued their local school district after their elementary-age children were given a sexually charged survey, saying there is "no fundamental right of parents to be the exclusive provider of information regarding sexual matters to their children." Read the full article here.

Appears Gatewood will have to deal with them now but on whose dime? The taxpayer's of course.

Homeschooling Nightmares

Homeschooling Nightmares

I just liked the title of this article. Our homeschool journey nightmares consisted of busybody friends and relatives who couldn't comprehend what we were doing or didn't like what we were doing. Some treated our children like lepers but we managed quite well without their company or input. Early on, once the battle for our rights prevailed, the school officials just ignored us hoping we'd go away. We were adamant no one would deny us our constitutional rights or get in the way of our learning. I say our learning because, as a homeschooling parent, you're going to get one of the best educations you can imagine when you raise homeschoolers. You will learn alongside your children and be the wiser for it.

I know many of you are just starting out on your homeschooling journey and many of you are only partially through. Once you've raised homeschoolers into their late teen and early twenty years you'll be able to look back and reflect on that time well spent. I am convinced even if you do little or nothing to teach your children they will be far better off and better educated than if they had attended institutional training in a public school all those years. This discovery appears to be the impetus for the unschooling movement that many parents are now leaning toward.

While we were homeschooling, to us unschooling meant doing things to undo the schooling we parents had as children. We purposely tried to find ways of learning or teaching that did not resemble what was done in public school. If we were tested or graded in school we refused to test or grade at home. If we were made to raise our hand for permission to talk we refused to do the same at home. We deliberately didn't use the many trappings used in schools such as classrooms, desks, text books, study units and the like. There was no teacher and student just parents and children. Today though unschooling has taken on a whole new meaning. No longer does there seem to be a deliberate attempt at not replicating the public school. Now children are simply allowed to be the naturally growing, curious, inquisitive little creatures they are while living within their family unit and in their communities. Unschooling is no longer a way of teaching. It has become a lifestyle.

How Congress helped created the very mental illness that resulted in the Giffords shooting

How Congress helped created the very mental illness that resulted in the Giffords shooting

"This simple truth is still not widely recognized in conventional medicine, nor is it common knowledge among the American people, most of which continue to feed their children processed, nutritionally depleted junk foods. And then they wonder why little Jonny is angry all the time. So they put him on ADHD drugs, SSRI drugs and other psychiatric chemicals. Before long, little Jonny is emptying a 30-round magazine into his classmates at school. And the parents, teachers, Sheriffs and members of Congress stand around scratching their heads, wondering to themselves, "Why does this happen?" So they blame Rush Limbaugh."

Is there a way out of all this? Is Congress so far removed from our day to day lives as parents they can legislate us into oblivion? Maybe it's time we all take a breath, sit down and really think about our lives. Do we truly need to be this hurried and in possession of mountains of 'stuff' and debt? Less is more as we would say in the theater. It may be time to bring the children home, simplify our lives and live in accordance with nature. We need to focus our attentions on our children and grandchildren as though they were the only ones on this earth. When I say 'our' children I don't mean the ones the government thinks belong to the village! Just my opinion.

Growing Up Unschooled...With Siblings

Growing Up Unschooled...With Siblings

"To me, one of the greatest benefits of unschooling is the relationships I've developed with my family, which I definitely attribute at least in part to unschooling. When in school, siblings spend every day apart from each other, in separate grades, classrooms, and even schools (though seeing as you're not supposed to be socializing in class, I suppose it wouldn't make much of a difference if siblings where in the same class, anyway). Evenings are usually spent doing homework, or spending time with other friends. There's a stigma attached to hanging out with people of different ages, and I've definitely also encountered a stigma to liking family members. To many young people, actually liking a sibling enough to spend time with them just isn't cool."

This 20 year old author expresses her experience growing up unschooled with her sister well. She seems very insightful for such a young writer.

Personally, I grew up on a mountain top with 9 siblings. We were shuffled off to public school against my parent's better judgment, but the law was the law back in the 50's, 60's and 70's. However, our time at home and out of school was spent bonding, learning lifelong skills we would truly need, and developing a camaraderie that to this day is unbreakable. Even as a child to me public school didn't make sense. What we did or learned there was useless to real life application, and relationships were solely based on the one thing we all had in common...attending public school. I've learned it's the socializing you do outside of schooling that matters most and creates the true bonds of friendship and love.

Doctors prescribe but parents give permission to administer

Thousands of children are prescribed these lethal medications by doctors every day but isn't permission needed from the parent to administer them? Why would a parent do this? Concern? Ignorance? Convenience? Lazy parenting? Stupidity? Stop and think!

So, maybe you gave birth to a child and you no longer have custody. Does your responsibility as a parent end there? How can you not hold yourself accountable when others in this world are medicating your child? A parent is a parent for life no matter the circumstances, the same way abortion does not stop you from becoming a mother or father. Abortion simply makes you the mother or father of a dead baby. But I digress so I'll save that topic for another day.

We all need to stop listening to doctors, politicians, the media and the money mongers who promote the dissolution of the family and the murder of unborn children. Be prepared to fight for your child's health, happiness and well being or don't become a parent. In case you haven't heard sex leads to pregnancy so either take precautions or get married. Yes, this sounds harsh but it's time we humans stop making excuses for our lack of self-discipline, lack of responsibility and lack of caring for our offspring. It saddens me to see videos like this and I don't like being sad.

Since when did human life become so worthless that we think so little of our own who are born to us. Parenting is the most difficult but the most enriching task you will ever undertake. Why would you give up that calling and privilege to others who would do your child harm?

If your child has been labeled you NEED to see this!

I've been screaming about labeling at the top of my lungs for over 30 years but no one was listening. Finally, others are catching on and speaking out too. Labeling was going on even while I was in school in the 60's and 70's but fortunately the psychiatric industry wasn't involved yet. Schooling was the main source of our frustrations and anxieties back then and still is for thousands of children today. When there is a buck to be made off children you can bet the pharmaceutical and psychiatric industries will be first in line with their hand out. This short video has got to be one of the most inspirational messages I've ever seen that gives me hope for the millions of children in America and around the world. Labeling children...we've got to stop this insanity!

Why Obama is ineligible – regardless of his birthplace

"The term "native born citizen" has been erroneously substituted for "natural born citizen" by numerous commentators. Mr. Morse correctly points out that the two are not synonymous. His article also proves once again that Chester Arthur's dual nationality was hidden from the public. There would have been no point in writing the article – which doesn't mention Chester Arthur – had the nation previously condoned a president born with dual allegiance."

This is a round about way to the NHERI's report but the Examiner has some interesting points to make in its synopsis. There are some links to other interesting articles about homeschooling as well.

If you think college grads are going to save the world think again!

UCLA is ranked as one of the top 25 colleges and universities in the US. I don't think this is isolated to UCLA because these students are from all over the world. Wonder how many of these students were honor graduates at their high school. Would love to hear their answers for other topics.

You really need to hear what the young woman at the end of this video wants to do when she graduates. That is some seriously scary stuff!

Homeschooling as a Single Parent

Homeschooling as a Single Parent

It can be done and with great success. Just takes some forethought and creativity, not to mention desire to accomplish your goal of homeschooling your child. Most of the time letting others know how determined you are to do this will give family members and friends incentive to pitch in and help. Go for it!

Grandparents can homeschool too

The author of this short article barely delves into the benefits of having grandparents involved with homeschooling their grandchildren. This could be incentive for me to elaborate further how grandparents can be beneficial to their grandchild's homeschooling in a future post. Let me think on that awhile.

"For the grandparent, dwelling schooling their grandchildren is typically a opportunity for interaction. Being in a position to spend endless hours in the company of a grandchild will be the principal incentive for many grandparents, though you will discover other benefits."
